Nice to meet you! I’m Juan Pastén, a 31-year-old Product Designer born and raised in Tijuana Mexico (#tijuanamakesmehappy), I’m currently working at ArkusNexus and collaborate at Brackets on my free time.
I grew up in a family of teachers (my mother and father) and architects (my father and sister). Help people to grow and achieve their goals, and design spaces to deliver comfort, were part of my growth.
I practice Karate since I was 4 and I currently teach Karate at my father’s Dojo. I train CrossFit to have a healthier and prosper life (Crossfit Linchpin), I train with my girlfriend and gym partners at 6 am and is a great way to start my day. I love coffee and food; gummy bears are the best thing in the world, I’m passionate about the cosmos and nature, read books and buy more books excites me a lot. I have concluded that our lifespan is very short in this universe, the best thing we can do is enjoy life as much as possible, always be learning and do everything we can do to help animals, the planet, and people.
Every day I have my coffee ritual with my friend Mario Duck; while we are brewing the coffee (4 minutes), we start talking about stuff, and by stuff, I mean music, movies, work, news, life, workouts, Instagram, games, food, design, or anything. We started with the idea of recording a podcast and chat about anything, a developer and a designer talking about stuff. We are live! You can hear our last episode here.
In February 2017 I had the opportunity to start and build the UX community in Tijuana with Jozue Morales and Estanislao Vizcarra. We organize monthly meetups where designers, developers, project managers or anyone is welcomed to talk about design, have panels or give a workshop.
From October 2015 to December 2016 (4 boot camps), I had the opportunity to mentor for 12 weeks recently college graduated students who were looking to learn new skills and get some real experience in their professional life.
On March 23, 2013, I had the opportunity to be a speaker in the Pre-startup weekend 3 in Tijuana, I talked about the benefits of the chrome extensions, and we developed a simple extension to verify how easy it was to create a new extension.
